I'd say Havukruunu is the inheritor of Quorthon and Bathory. Male choirs, vikingesque themes and tales of Finnish paganism from the happier times before our ancestors were made to convert or die by sword of blooded cross. These songs bring a tear into my eye when I think my ancestors being forced to kneel in front of a murderer.

Black metal and synths, not a traditional amalgamation, but Kvalvaag have done a bang-up job. Occasional synths augment the experience to an almost whimsical level, something I find oddly enticing. That's not to say Seid isn't a blistering rush of savagery, it's still absolutely brimming with blackened elements to make any black metal fan salivate.

I just deleted my initial thoughts on that record because I felt I missed the point. So now what can I tell after owning it for 24h? First of all, no release in 2016 caught me like that one did. It's my favorite record this year. Pretty safe to say, it's almost November. I didn't really listen to anything else than this. All day long these three tracks and I think it'll go on for some more days. The drumming is so awesome, these vocals, the sheer insanity. What a band.
